Research Protocol Specialist

A Research Protocol Specialist functions much like a project manager. They move the protocol through the process from conception to completion. As an RPS, their tasks include closely interacting with: the Principal Investigator, nurses, CRA’s, and regulatory (as applicable); legal and budget personnel; member sites and industry sponsors.

Describe your sense of call or mission to become a Research Protocol Specialist.

Like most people, cancer has affected my life in many ways. By doing my part in cancer research I feel like I can make small changes for future generations. This gives me great satisfaction in the work I do every day.

What is it that you are currently working on that energizes you most?

As a Research Protocol Specialist, I assist physicians in building their protocols. I look forward to each study I work on and do my best to make sure it becomes a successful study.

What do you see as promising trends in your field or specialty?

I have the pleasure of working with so many people who are passionate, extremely intelligent, and extraordinary. This is what will help us get to a day where cancer does not claim the lives of so many people.

What do you feel is your greatest accomplishment?

Personally, my children are my greatest accomplishment. Professionally, I strive to always bring my best to every job I do, from start to finish. As I do my job, I always try to keep the needs of the patient in the forefront of my mind. I have had the pleasure of working in the Mayo Clinic community for 24 years and I am very proud of that accomplishment.

What is the last book you read? Did you enjoy it? Why or why not?

The last book I read was Mitch Albom’s “The Stranger in the Lifeboat.” I loved this book. It was such a great story, with life lessons, suspense and mystery.

What do you love to do outside of your work?

My children are my world and I spend most of my time with them. My oldest son is working on completing a master’s degree in athletic training, with a minor in nutrition. My daughter graduated with a degree in sociology and now is completing her master’s degree. My youngest son is 11 and busy with hockey, baseball and football. We can always be found on the rink or field. When I’m not with my children I enjoy listening to live music, spending time with my 3 dogs, reading, attending sporting events, playing bingo and gathering with friends.
